As one of the earliest departments, School of Foreign Languages for International Business has a history as long as Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT), celebrating her 45 th anniversary in 2005.
Currently School of Foreign Languages for International Business offers the following degree programs:

Junior college level: English (business English, Sino-British program)
Among the BA degree programs, English program is privileged to be included in the Shanghai Undergraduate Education Highland Construction Projects by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education.
Ever since the year of 2000, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education, the cooperation between SIFT and the University of Central Lancashire, UK, has crystallized first into the joint program in English for International Business (BA and junior college level), and then into the program in Journalism (BA), with all the core courses of the joint programs imported from the relevant programs in University of Central Lancashire, UK.
School of Foreign Languages for International Business boasts of an excellent teaching and research staff consisting of renowned senior professors and promising instructors, versed in their academic field and experienced in teaching, and reasonably spread in the brackets of age, educational background and academic titles. At the same time, each year the school invites international specialists and teachers to join its teaching team.
The school has never stopped developing and adjusting its curricula to meet the demand of the society , and the teaching mode is renovated to integrate traditional classroom teaching with field training made possible by the multimedia facilities in the language lab. By employing advanced means of teaching and modern teaching facilities, the school has been making every effort to create a foreign languages-friendly environment for its students. With regard to teaching management, the school has adopted the credit system and management by objectives.
As a result of the joint efforts of the school faculty and the students themselves, the English major students often come out ahead in the national TEM 8, and the Japanese major students have for several times won first award in the Shanghai Japanese Speech Contest for Japanese Majors in Colleges in Shanghai. As for the Japanese majors and French majors, their mastery of second foreign language (English) is quite satisfactory.
As a characteristic, the school curriculum includes a range of theoretical and practical courses of economics and international trade so as to cultivate talents with high caliber, who, upon graduation, are bound to be more competitive and employable.
The school also undertakes the task of college English teaching for all students of non-English majors in SIFT.
The Business English program, which has under it a Business English Research and Development Center (in cooperation with University of Central Lancashire, UK), is now the key construction discipline of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education. With 45 years of hard work, School of Foreign Languages for International Business has developed ripe and complete curricula of business foreign languages, reaching a relatively high level of teaching and research in business foreign languages and enjoying a leading role in this field at home. So the school has been designated the staff training base by various enterprises as well as the organizational departments of Shanghai municipality and some other provinces and cities.
Noteworthy is that School of Foreign Languages for International Business also has a Research Institution of Foreign Literature, which enjoys a cutting edge in the field of foreign literature research, especially in Australian literature research.
